September 1994
was the 30th anniversary of the buggy creation, and
the opportunity for Bruce Meyers, its creator, to
offer us a series of photos covering his life and
explaining the reasons why he decided to build this
diabolic machine. This is the summary of a pretty
full life.

Old Red is the first Meyers'
Manx, the original from which deux hundred thousand
legitimate and unlegitimate copies were made out
worlwide.

Bruce was raised in California.
He is an ocean and "beach life" lover. That will
conduct him to join the merchant navy when he is
seventeen and then the U.S. Navy and he will be
involved in 1945 in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa
invasion.

|
After the war, Bruce goes to the
well known art schools in Los Angeles and San
Francisco, where he learns the sketching. He sails
again for some time then returns to his beach boy
life. When invited on a sailing boat, he cruises
during six months on the south oceans towards
Tongareva, a coral atoll in the Cook Islands. Then
he visits Tahiti.
