BRUCE MEYERS STORY

One day, his friend Tod Mangels brings him a map of South California and indicates that he has found a way to beat the 1600 kilometers record owned by a motor bike. He convinces Bruce and they will use the "Old Red" to which they will adapt additional gas tanks for this attempt .

After the track recognition (scouting) with a couple of friends, they divide it in three parts : good, bad and desastrous ! Thus by tacking the best tracks, they will beat the record !

Back at home, Bruce will despatch the information to all the automobile media which will tell the story. The famous Baja 1000 is born ! The first edition has taken place in 1967. The Meyers' Manx team finishes first and second.

For the second edition, Bruce enters three Tow'd, his new creation, more specific to intensive "all tracks" rides. He drives the Tow'd wearing nr. 6.

But, during a race with Parnelli Jones, he jumps over a huge slope, breaks his Tow'd n two parts and, much worse, his two legs, which ends his off-road pilot career.

During the same period of time, another team will win twice the California autocross championship with a Manx. The same team also wins the famous Pikes Peak "hill climbing" race.
