BUILDING-UP

To install this last kit, it is of course necessary to completely dismount the engine. If mounting the crank shaft is no problem, on the other hand, you will have to re-work slightly the rods so that they do not touch the cam shaft. The original pistons and cylinders can be kept although the manufacturer suggests their replacement if they have more than 15000 km. Here again, you must proceed to a small modification by slightly diminishing the bottom part of the rear apron of the four pistons that might touch the opposed rod opposed when at the low dead point.

The 1200 engines equipped with the Okrasa kits are fed by two Solex 32 PBIC carburettors mounted on special intake manifolds. They are coupled by a tube that balances the vacuum and are supplied with the wiring and the air-filters Knecht.

Once the struts installed under the cylinders and those put in place again, you change the four dowels. It is then time to place the two beautiful heads, bearing the Okrasa crest within the iron (OU copper ?), behind the rockers arm. They are mounted with 33 mm valves (instead of 31 mm) at the admission, the kit 1300 receiving for itself some 34,5 mm.
Although anyone can assemble this kit himself, it is also possible to have done by Oettinger workshops.

After you have installed this engine in your Beetle or your Karmann Ghia, what more can you wish ? At least an important performance increase. A serial 1200 with a maximum speed of 110 km/h with many efforts wins approximately 20 more km/h and passes from 0 to 100 in 18,5 seconds instead of 30 seconds ! Developping no least than 50 cv at 4200 trs/mn (34 cv for the 1200), the 1300 accepted without no problem a good 5200 trs/mn, while the maximal ratio was reached around 2200 trs/mn.

Today, using a VW equipped with such an engine is no problem. It is possible to cruise at 110 with still available under your foot and without consuming much more that with the original engine. The only problem is to start "at cold", but if you pump a few times before starting, it's o.k. When the engine is warm, you push half way on the accelerating clutch and the engine starts straight away.

A beautiful restoration pushed by an Okrasa equipped engine, this is the Class !
