marquants:
The
code " 1- " used until then on all chassis
numbers, is suppressed as from August 1st,
1955, introducing the " model-year "
system. It will still be utilised on the
engine numbers until the end of
1955.
The
millionth beetle is produced on August
6th, 1955. Painted gold, it is specially
manufactured for the great
meeting/festival organised in Wolfsburg
which will gather representative people
from all the countries where it is
available.
-
The gas tank design changes, becomes
flatter, increasing the boot volume. The
exhaust pipe now has two outlets, with two
chromed nozzles. The rear-skirt is in this
way modified to leave room for the two
outlets.
- The doors loose the folds around the
inhand pannel. The doors outside handles
have a central sharp edge and are not
flat. The upholstery design is modified :
it is made out of 7 identical strips
replacing the two previous small lateral
strips and the main center one. The
sliding seat system is improved and the
back rest can be adjusted on three
positions. The convertible model receives
a soft top slightly different from the
previous one.
- New rear lights appear ; installed
higher on the wing, they loose their
heart-shape glass and integrate an
indicator "repeat". Some Export models
(U.S.A., Portugal) loose their arrows,
replaced by indicators leaping out under
the headlights.
- New driving wheel, new gear lever with
elbow shape, new hand brake, shorter,
slightly backwards on the chassis
beam.
Colours
:
A few new colours appear in 1956. Reed
light green, jungle dark green, metal
silver for the sedans and Congo middle
green, almond light green, dolphin light
grey, shetland metal grey for the
cabriolets. A new dark beige is available
on both models.
