In June 1951 comes out the Type 24 also called "Samba Bus" with no less than 23 windows, a sun-roof, with two color paint and external chromes ; a chromed luggage rack is proposed in option. A new and wider dashboard offers, besides the beetle mileometer, a clock, a radio and an electric gas gauge. The seats, more comfortable, are equipped with arm-rests.

In June 1950, although the commercialisation of the microbus only starts, a german agent uses it for demonstration. Many details reveal that this vehicle was hand-made in 1949 and then later tranformed into this microbus.

With few alterations, this Kombi can make a nice "observation wagon". The Deutsche Bahn, german railway company, has understood this and use it for the transport of the maintenance personnel.

In December 1951, the Type 27 (ambulance) is commercialised, built on a Kombi basis, the tailgate height is increased to help the manipulation of the stretcher, and the engine compartment is reduced. The spare-tyre is placed behind the driver's seat, the gas tank is moved slightly forward. This system will only be commercialised on all the VW utility vehicles as from March 1955.

The barn-door has left place to the tailgate type, larger and allowing a comfortable manipulation of the stretcher.

This ambulance would be one of the seven ones realised by Miessen long before he signed a contract with the Wolfsburg management. It does not have the larger tailgate and the air-shutters of the roof are not definitive yet.

At the end of 1951, on all the Type 2 series, the noise level of the engine compartment is improved as well as the wheels passages. The springs become a little more flexible and the front seats are better heated.

Still in 1951, Westfalia Cy realises camping-cars prototypes on Type 2 basis, called Camping-Box. These camping-cars will later be distributed throughout the VW network.
