In January 1953, the deflector opening on the doors is modified. They slew around themselves and now open towards the inside.

Only the technical improvements differentiate them from the previous years models : smoother direction, silent-blocks better filtering the vibrations, more "nervous" engine at low rpm, better lightening.

The camping-Box is equipped with an expandable sun roof, a coat hanger cabinet, a kitchenet and a special space for the youngest.

When inside, one can realise the volume occupied by the engine compartment. Things will improve only as from 1955 with the barn door disappearing.

To allow transport of long items such as a ladder, VW will quickly study a small door in the tailgate.
