In March 1955, the range a "rejuvenating treatment" : smaller engine hood, wider tailgate door, 15 inches rims, modified suspension and brakes, more comfortable seats ; new dashboard, new cabin ventilation system, bringing fresh air from over the wind screen and forming a type of hat shader on the Type 2 roof. It can, as on the ambulance, be equipped with an electrical fan.

Delivery delays being very long, the VW factory management decides to build a new production site . Thirty thousand Kombis are exported to the new sister company : Volkswagen of America.

The german fire brigade use daily the Volkswagen utility vehicles. Here they unload a motor-pump powered by a Beetle engine. This device on which they plug the fire hose is no more than a static engine running an incoming and outgoing pump.

Before March 1955, the ambulance and the pick up already had a small door for access to the engine compartment. Apparently, they were not the only ones, as proves this hearse dating from before December 1954 (no rear-bumpers).

These sectional views, showing a Microbus and a Pick-up allow to see a number of specific points. Besides the new air-ventilation device for the cabin, the Pick-up has not changed after March 1955. Things are different for the Microbus. The gas tank, even if it not at the same place, is identical to the Pick-up one, and the spare tyre is behind the front seat. The new 1955 models gain a lot from the Pick-up study.
