Two special models appear : the double-cabin Pick-up and the widened platform Pick-up. Volkswagen also produces a service vehicle for the Police Dept, an isothermal Transporter.... Some modifications : rear-lights with increased diameter ensure lightening, astop lights and are now called combined lights. The bumpers are smooth, the section is bigger and they are more resistant. The wind-shields are in Securit glass ; the choice of colours is increased for the saddlery.

This Pick-up with "following" trailer is one of the special models presented at Frankfurt in 1957. From this year on all the Pick-up, the arrows will be fixed under the bright-steel body line.

As this Pick-up and the double-cabin Pick-up, the wide platform Pick-up in bright steel has the platform covered with wooden lathes. The observers will have noticed that they are not all of the same length.

During 1958, the big bumpers appear as well as the "buffalo-bumper", as a possible option, mounted on Export models. Also in 1958 on the real utility Type 2, the chromes on the hub caps are replaced by painted ones.

This Kombi manufactured in 1958 equipped with winking lights and lenses for U.S. lights proves that the Type 2 made for the american market were not equipped with reinforced bumpers.

In all 1958, the range is increased with this Kombi transporting personnel, trailing a "motor-pump" on VW mechanical basis and a few yards long hose.
