In 1959, there are mainly mechanical improvements : new gear box with all the ratios, at last, synchronised ; a strengthened crank-shaft as well as the two semi-carters-motor at bearing level, inclined valves, more performant exhaust. These modifications do not increase the engine power but give it a better torque. It is more reliable and silent.

In 1959 Volkswagen still trusts Miesen, specialised in the body work, for the ambulances. Since 1955, this vehicle has its own electric ventialtion providing fresh aire event at still. To help loading the stretchers, the rear door opens from top to bottom making a sort of ramp.
