The 600 000th Type 2 comes out on April 27th.

In May, the semaphores are replaced by indicating lights with shell shape for the front, and are included in the stop-lights at the rear. The front seat can be adjusted in three different positions.

Mechanically wise, the compression rate of the engine passes to 7:1, the carburettor receives an automatic choke and the air filter has an aspired air pre-heating device; the engine power passes from 30 to 34 horses; the speed counter is graduated unto 120 km/h; the brakes are reviewed in consequence; the master-cylinder and the brake cylinders diameters increase.

The same year, the study office presents a Transporter called for "large volumes" with an upper roof; the inside height is 1m75; the doors are widened unto the gutter; the useful volume passes from 4,8 to 6 square meters.

The large volume Transporter is the ideal vehicle for travelling grocer, as he can stand up in his vehicle without bending his back. The Transporter will also be much appreciated by those who transport large volume items. The rear side with the big bicolor lights dates from August 1961. This model will be the only one to keep this tail gate door when a larger model will come out in August 1963.

From outside, the isothermal version of the Transporter can be recognized thanks to the small gate mounted under the gutter, just nearby the air shutters of the engine compartment.

Today for the Pick-up collector, the cover is the most important accessory. This model for the european market is equipped with orange indicators appearing in May 1960.

This is the mass-produced Pick-up manufactured in 1960. It is most interesting to compare it to the 1957 prototype. Among other things, the access door for the back seats was wider and we notice that Volkswagen chose a cheaper solution: to mount a half of a lateral double-door.
