Unlike the previous year,
1962 is rich with events regarding the Type 2.

Comfort wise, the driver now has an individual seat with six adjusting notches ; the passenger seat backrest seat can be folded forward. The Type 2 commercialised in the U.S.A. can be equipped with a ventral safety belt for the front seats.

Mechanically wise, 1962 sees the first Type 2 equipped with 1493 cm2 engines (developping 42 horses at 3800 tr/mn), which means that the maximum speed passes from 60 to 65 mph, as from January in the U.S.A., and early summer for Europe.

The body is slightly transformed: The wings paths were widened, giving a kind of hem in bright-steel over the rear wheel path, noticeable at first sight.

On October 2, 1962, the 1 000 000th Type 2 is produced in the Hanover factory.

On their side, Westfalia issue a new Camping-car model, the SO 34, equipped with furniture in plastified panels. Also to help camping-car owner, they commercialise furniture they can install themselves in their Type 2 to transform it into a Camping-car.
