In 1965, the Volkswagen catalog mentions the Westfalia Camping-car as being the dining room as well as the living room, bedroom and the holiday house. It also points out that the equipment is easy to install and remove, which means that one the holidays are over, you can use it as an authentic utility vehicle.

In October the factory stops producing the Type 2 of 800 kgs useful charge equipped with a 1200 engine for 34 power-horses ; the basic model is now the One-Ton equipped with the 1500 engine for 44 power-horses.

For the first time in its history, the Type 2 annual production decreases.

If, on the last Type 2, with a cap-shader, there was a dashboard slightly modified from March 1955, the front seats had been modified all that time for comfort purposes. The small tank situated on the left of the steering wheel under the dashboard is just the wind-screen wiping liquid. To action it, you only needed to push on the black cap.

In 1965, the access door to the compartment is equipped with a lock identical to the Beetle one.
