 Chassis numbers from 1950 til 1967

One more point, these numbers are only indicative, allowing to situate the production period with a 15 day time difference as these vehicles are not produced strictly in the numbers order. A chassis more recent than the one on the list may have been assembled before the latter. On the other hand, the list does not take into account the holiday period when the factory is closed ! As an indication, the last chassis assembled in July 1957 (271 675) came out from the production link on July 11th ! And the chassis numbered 137 605, indicated as produced end of July 1955 was in effect produced on August 4th ! If you have a doubt regarding a date of production for the Type 2 before 1956, you can write to the museum : Stiftung, Automuseum Volksvagen, Dieseltrasse 35, 384 36 Wolfsburg 1, Germany.
The chassis numbered 1 328 271 came out from the production link end of July 1964. As from August 1964, Volkswagen introduced a new chassis numbering. For the model-year 1965, the code 215 appears. It will become 216 for the year 1966 and so on.
Please note that if the first figure represents the type (2), the second one indicates the model (1: tole, 2: Bus, 3: Bully, 4: 23 windows, 6: Pick-up, 7: ambulance). |

figures give you the chassis numbers in the model year, that
is from August 1st until July 31st (in theory). For
indication, you will find the produced chassis numbers at
the end of each year.
