This is a Deluxe Car VW from 1968.

First commercialisation of the Bay-Window Bus, at the same time as the presentation of the new air-cooled VW range. For 1968, main characteristic is the same front axle as on the Split Bus. It explains the enthusiasm for it. Besides the points me mentioned earlier, the door handles are chromed and similar to today's Beetles' ones.

The deflectors are spindling and present on the Deluxe model. At the beginning, they close thanks to a simple chromed latch, apparently too easy to open for thieves. Then, in August 1968, they are replaced by a circular latch in black plastic, that you have to turn to open. But this is optional for the other models. Deflectors, also optional, are available for the lateral windows, except at the rear because of the sliding door, and at the front, but why remains a mystery ! (Perhaps visibility for the driver with the rearview mirror ?). Backward lights are also optional.

The VW Car version has been much used for transporting children during the early seventies.
