The astonishment is consequent in the month of August 1967, when for the first time the Bay Window is commercialised. Conceived by Gustav Mayer and his team of designers and engineers, the Bus adopts a new look based on comfort, safety and modernity.

No real esthetic concern, but really a modern equipment, of high quality, and adapted. Main characteristic : the windshield, which is no longer in two parts and now offers an increased visibility (27% more). That is the origin of its name : " Bay-Window ".

From the beginning of its production, this serie is composed by the embossed sheets model ( maximum 3 seats), the raised embossed sheets model, simply called the " courier Bus "), the 9 seats model, the double cabin model (6 seats), the simple cabin model (3 seats), the enlarged platform model (3 seats) and the Deluxe Microbus or VW Bus, according to that times' catalog (8 seats). Introduced and commercialised at the same time as the new model of Beetle, it has in common many spare parts, such as the headlights from Hella (as well as the winkers), the deflectors buttons and some other buttons and switches…
