Very
much improved and new on many points, the
torsion-bar system is however maintained
on the Bay Window Buses. The front
suspension is similar to a Beetle's
(similar, but not identical
) and
reinforced at the front. The torsion bars
are identical to the Split Bus' (1 bar = 9
blades). The front axle is bolted to 2
lengthly beams and it has an anti-roll
bar. At the rear, a bar-bearer tube passes
through the Bus and the diagonal arms are
fixed on the silent-blocks.

You
also have rubber thrusts fixed to the
structure. The torsion-bars are more or
less long and solid depending on the
utilisation of the Bus (goods transport or
passengers). The front path is of 1384 mm
while the rear one is of 1426 mm,
therefore more narrow than on the Split
Bus ! Finally, the first Bay-Window Buses
are always in 5 holes alike the Beetles
before 1968, and this because of heavier
weight compared to the Beetle (see details
per year).
