The two
doors, larger than on a Beetle, are equipped with
push-button door handles and can be locked from outside.
From inside, a claw with a double function, identical to the
one that will equip the Beetle in 1967, opens and closes the
passenger door, while the driver's door cannot be locked
from inside. Later, the lock will become a push button. All
the windows of the 1500 are in Securit glass and the
rear-window is a pop-out type.
The ventilation system of the windscreen has two air
channels, with three levers on the dashboard, orienting them
to the left, to the right or to the feet.
The seats adjusting run is 100 mm. The front seat back-rests
are equipped with blockers so that in case of accident, the
passengers are not projected forward.
All the indoor elements are conceived for the best possible
passive security, the soft dashboard, the handles on the
passenger side, the safety belts and the steering wheel with
the drive-off hub.
The
boots
The
boots are dressed with rubber carpets. In option, delivery
of the car with an opening roof. As the engine is of " flat
" type, the decklid contains 200 liters while the hood
contains 180 liters.
Both boots open from inside, except on the Station Wagon
version.
The oil level control can be done without opening the engine
hood, as the gauge is installed at the rear on the right,
directly on the body. One can check just by opening the
hood.
The first 1500 will be equipped with a 6 volts 77 ah battery
and a 220 watts dynamo.
The plate light happens to be also an opening
handle.
Body
First
the front and rear parts are assembled, followed by the
roof.
The front wings thickness is 0,8 mm, the doors, the boots
and the rear wings are 0,75 mm and the inside sheets
inferior to 0,63 mm.
The
tank
The
tank contains 40 liters like on the Beetles.
The front
axle
The
front axle is entirely new and alike the Beetle one for the
conception, although quite different. First, the axle body
is composed by two parts in embossed sheets, welded
together, and on the other hand, the edges bunch-wiring used
on the Beetle are replaced, on the inferior part, by the
long notched torsion bars at each end and crossing at the
center of the axle body, and in the upper part, by a anti
roll bar. It results in a much softer and progressive
suspension for a better comfort.
When it came
out, the VW 1500 was equipped with drum brakes and 15 inches
wheels.
Note
While the weight when empty is 860 kg for the Sedan and 985
kg for the Variant, the latest has the same mechanical
equipment as the Sedan, but the fixing points are different
with rubber levels for more comfort.
